Front Line™ is a war game similar to Ikari Warriors, but I believe that Front Line™ came first. This was one of the few action games that utilized the Super Action™ Controllers which made it very cool to play. The control stick was only used to move your character/tank and the four buttons were used to fire your gun, rotate clockwise and counter clockwise and fire grenades. Worthy of noting, I believe my copy of this game is the Canadian version (or dual country version) because it came with 2 sets of overlays (English/French) for the controllers and it also came with a french sticker label for the cartridge.
From the back of the box:
Your’e a lonely infintryman, fighting through treacherous terrain. The enemy comes at you from all sides; counterattack with your pistol and grenades before it’s too late! The battleground changes constantly; watch out for deadly land mines! When enemy tanks close in, leap into your own tank! Your ultimate mission: reach and destroy the enemy’s fortress.
I remember having a lot of fun playing this game, but the details are sketchy. I remember loving the fact that you could get into a tank and fight from inside the tank, and then you could get back out and fight again on foot! This was a big deal at the time. The Super Action™ Controllers were also very intuitive in this game (I’m still not sure why someone hasn’t copied their design which is really a very good one-the only problem with those controllers was build quality). Also, this game made a big deal about the fact that you could pause it. They called it “instant pause control”, another thing that was novel at the time. I will try to play this game again so I can write a more thorough review when I get a chance, but for now, I’d rather work on getting more games up here. If you would like to submit a unique review for this or any other games on this site, use the contact link on this page to send me a message about it!
