Donkey Kong™ was the pack-in game with the ColecoVision™ system. It was also the main reason many people purchased that system. It was the best home console gmae to date: hands down! I first played this game at a local TV store in Ballston Spa (the store is no longer there and I can’t remember the name, but it was right on Rt. 50 near Front St. I used to stop there after school all the time to get a chance to play this great game. This is still one of my favorite games and I love the ColecoVision™ version almost as much as the arcade version.
Notes: This game was a pack-in, so it had no individual box. Also, I have two ColecoVision™ systems, so I have two Donkey Kong™ carts. My price listed below is for the system.
From the ColecoVision™ Brochure:
Donkey Kong™ the ape has captured Mario’s girlfriend and has taken her to the top of a steel fortress. You’ve got to get Mario to the top to save her! But-as he runs across the girders and up the ladders, the ape throws barrels at him to prevent his progress! There are even fireballs that block his path! Will Mario avoid the barrels and fireballs and rescue his girl in time?
In my opinion, Donkey Kong™ is one of the greatest arcade games of all time. The ColecoVision™ version was the best console version of its day. It had 3 out of the 4 levels from the arcade version and they were all done very well. The play control and sound were top notch (again, for their day). The difficulty level on this game was a little easy, but scoring a really high score was difficult and somehow, I never got tired of playing the same three levels over and over. I have many many hours logged on this game! I highly recommend the ColecoVision™ version of this game to anyone who loves Donkey Kong™ and has never played it.
